 My story

Everyone deserves the ability to express their emotions and feel understood. I became a therapist to help others find their voice and make sense of what they are experiencing. I am especially passionate about working with children, teens, and young adults who may feel overwhelmed, confused, or unsure how to put their experiences into words.

Hi there! My name is Julia Aguirre, and I am a California registered associate marriage and family therapist (AMFT #158681) practicing under the supervision of Ashley Hudson (LMFT #83507).

Where it all began...

Life naturally brings challenges, and there are moments that can feel overwhelming or difficult to understand, especially when emotions feel big or hard to put into words. Many recognize that something feels “off” before they have the words to describe it. Therapy offers a supportive space to slow things down, explore what is going on beneath the surface, and begin to make sense of emotions that have been confusing, stressful, or overlooked.

I became a therapist because I deeply understand how isolating it can feel to think something is “wrong” with you. Growing up, I struggled with anxiety and avoidant behaviors without having the language to describe it or the support to explore it. For years, I did not know those feelings had a name or that there were tools to help. This experience shaped my commitment to creating a safe, compassionate environment where young people can feel seen, validated, and free to express themselves openly. Sometimes people simply need reassurance that they are not alone and that what they are experiencing is not “crazy” or “abnormal.” Helping clients build understanding, develop emotional vocabulary, and feel empowered in their healing is truly a passion of mine.

I earned my Master’s in Marriage, Couples, and Family Therapy from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. During my program I followed my passion in supporting children, teens, and young adults who are managing anxiety, identity development, self-esteem challenges, burnout, and both peer and family conflict. I believe that everyone deserves the ability to express their emotions and feel understood.

As a former student-athlete, I understand firsthand the dedication and pressure that come with pursuing a passion. While the experience can be incredibly rewarding, it can also feel overwhelming as you navigate the many demands both within and beyond your sport. I have experience supporting elite student-athletes in managing sport performance anxiety, creating strategies to help balancing responsibilities, and coping with the high expectations that often accompany competitive athletics.

My goal is to help clients find their voice, understand their feelings, and communicate emotions that might have felt hard to identify or express. In my work, I draw from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy. My style is collaborative, warm, empathetic, inclusive, nonjudgmental, and compassionate. I value meeting clients where they are, knowing that growth looks different for everyone.

My experience in the field has shown me that every individual is unique, and I take pride in creating an environment where clients feel supported on their best days, their hardest days, and every day in between. I also enjoy getting to know clients through their interests, hobbies, and creativity because genuine connection is the foundation of strong therapeutic work. In the therapy room, I commit to creating a safe, welcoming, and affirming space where you can share your story at your own pace.

It takes courage to reach out for help, especially when you feel overwhelmed or unsure of where to begin. Wherever you are starting from, we will take the next steps together.  If this resonates with you, contact us today and schedule your first appointment.
